Swedish designer Simon Morris has created an elegant lamp that hovers without any support and is powered through the air.
Flyte is a two-part lamp that consists of a base and a light bulb. The light bulb can float over the base as long as the base is connected to a power supply. The bulb can also rotate continuously. All you have to do to turn the light bulb on is gently touch the base. The light can be turned on or off while the levitation will continue.
The base is made from sustainably sourced oak, ash and walnut and can also charge smartphones that features wireless charging.
Recently launched on Kickstarter, Flyte is the perfect example of how today’s technology resembles true magic.
In its base, the lamp has an array of electromagnets and a magnetic induction charger. Placing the bulb on the base and releasing it slowly will see it rise and settle into position.
Morris is offering Flyte lights through his Kickstarter campaign for early pledges of US$239, with deliveries estimated to begin in October if all goes to plan.
