More than 25 years ago, the Topled set a worldwide standard as the first surface-mountable LED, and now Osram Opto Semiconductors has shrunk its package further for greater design flexibility.

According to Osram, despite the considerable miniaturization, the low-power LED remains bright, reliable and robust. ThinGaN, thin film and Sapphire, the Topled E1608 LEDs are all based on the latest chip technologies, delivering 3.6 times the brightness of their predecessor models at the normal operating current of 20mA operation.

“The new Topled E1608 LEDs are some of the smallest LEDs in their class. In addition, they offer reliability, a wide selection of colors and impressive values. Whatever the customer requirements they are suitable whether the application is toward to top or bottom of the brightness range,” said Anita Wenzl, Manager LED Automotive Interior at Osram Opto Semiconductors.

Osram plans to manufacture the new Topled generation in numerous colours – from yellow and orange to super red, white, pure green and true green. The current market launch of six Topled E1608 products is the start of a whole series of new versions in this product family.
